Connecting Back to your heart and finding your Spark
When was the last time you felt that spark for life? The little bubble of excitement to experience something new or do something you love? What is it that you love to do anyway? What is it that brings you joy and happiness? If you are having a hard time answering any of these questions, don’t worry. We have all been there. If I would have asked myself this question a year ago I would tell you that the last time I felt a true spark of wonder was when I was a child. But even back then it was probably very dimmed. Childhood is not easy for most of us. How can it be when society has put the emphasis of our whole childhood to just be training for adulthood? Where is the fun in that?!
Then we get to adulthood. Work. Eat. Sleep. Repeat. We have to do this everyday until we die? My soul is exhausted. The spark is long gone.
The reason we feel this spark as children is because as children we are connected to our heart. Our heart is our desires, our wants, and everything we want to experience in life. As we grow into adulthood we are taught that it’s not about what the heart wants, the mind is more logical and we should always think logically and analyze. The heart grows dim. We choose the wrong career, we choose the wrong partner, we make the same mistakes over and over and begin to feel empty inside. Maybe feeling things inside the heart center isn’t as primitive as society has led us to believe, in fact connecting to your back to your heart gives you that child-like spark for life again.
If you’re like me, I didn’t know how to connect back to my heart because it had been so foreign to me. It’s those subtle urges, those subtle nudges that are calling to you. For me it started with acting on those subtle urges to treat myself to nice things here and there. After all, I had denied myself of anything I truly wanted for myself for the sake of not being materialistic and because I had a “lack” mentality. Money is scarce, I can’t spend all willy nilly, ya know. It started with a pedicure, a new lipstick, a new pair of shoes- Wow this feels good to be kind to myself! Then it was a bike ride, allowing myself to eat foods I enjoyed, choosing understanding over judging others, compassion and empathy over harsh words, finishing my book and now I even enjoy doing small things. It’s like the more I tune into my heart the stronger it beats. The electromagnetic field around my heart grows bigger and stronger. It becomes like a force field around your physical body and the childhood spark has returned with more enthusiasm than I ever remembered-I am finding joy and meaning in the things I use to find mundane. Washing dishes, cooking, enjoying a warm cup of coffee, laughter of my kids-it seems like such a gift to be able to experience it all.
Connect back to your heart to find your spark!
